This program helps job seekers gain temporary employment at local Food Relief Programs to give needed assistance to our communities in response to the Covid-19 emergency.
You may be eligible if any of these apply:
- You’re temporarily or permanently laid off as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic
- You’re collecting Unemployment benefits
- Are long term unemployed
- You’re a self-employed individual who become unemployed or significantly underemployed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Positions: Full-time and part-time positions available. Click on links for job descriptions where available.
Amherst Survival Center (Amherst)
- Stocker – Food Pantry Assistant (full time, $17/hour)
- Driver (full time, $20/hour)
Highland Valley Elder Services (Northampton)
Driver positions are $20/hour, all other positions are $17/hour. NOTE: Highland Valley positions require a resume and an additional interview with the worksite.
- 1 Packer 6:30 to 11:30 Monday – Friday
- 1 Packer 7:30 to 11:30 Monday – Friday
- 1 Driver North 10:30 to 12:30 Monday – Friday
- 2 Drivers for Westfield 11:45 to 1:45 Monday – Friday
- 1 Driver East 10:30 – 12:30 Monday – Friday
Who would I work for?
Snapchef (snapchef.com) will be your employer. Snapchef is a culinary training and staffing company in New England that provides staffing for food service establishments. The Career Center will be working closely with Snapchef to fill positions at the above local food relief non-profits and the Career Center will work with you to find a permanent placement afterwards. You may also be eligible for training opportunities.
What is the pay?
It depends on the position, $17-$20/hour. Most driver positions require the use of your own car and do not reimburse for travel; however, the pay is higher at $20/hour.
How long will the job last?
It depends on the specific position. Most positions will last up to 8 weeks and will end by the end of December 2020.

How do I apply?
Applications must be made through the MassHire Franklin Hampshire Career Center to determine eligibility first. Eligible applicants will be referred to Snapchef to complete their employment application and orientation process.
